Whoops!

My spelling mistake is repeating a word being spelled, or forgetting it entirely. This mistake is one I have been making more often than usual recently, one of the times being (embarrassingly!) during a PowerPoint presentation. I suspect its due to long-term sleep deprivation, but it’s one I am prone to on a regular basis. I do this more on the computer, but I have been seeing it in my handwriting as well, especially lately (as I mentioned earlier).
One key way anyone can prevent this from happening is to read out loud. It naturally follows that this is also a good way of catching the mistake when it does occur. Reading out loud will cause your brain to be less likely to autocorrect the simple mistake and reveal the misstep.

I used this example that I came across while looking up grammar rules for our assignment. I was surprised to find this type of mistake on a publication, even if it is an internet one. The hilariously bizarre examples aside (rabid zombie kittens?), I was entertained at the way the sentence abruptly stops. What are the chances that the sentence with the blaring error would be the very one chosen by google?

  1. I agree about slowing down and reading your words aloud. Often times our fingers type faster than our brain is thinking.

  2. I feel pretty discouraged when I misspell words multiple times. I agree that slowing down and proofreading will help keep focus and keep the words straight.
