I found this lead while doing the homework assignment requiring us to find five different leads.
Impact lead: An
impact lead tells the reader so what? What is it about the information in the article that impacts your life? This article from The New York Times does
just that. It tells the reader Republican lawmakers are trying to
implement a new tax plan that will impact businesses and taxpayers.
WASHINGTON —
Republican lawmakers unveiled a sweeping rewrite of the tax code on Thursday,
outlining a $1.5 trillion plan that will deliver a significant tax cut for
corporations and more modest savings for middle-class families while tilting
the United States closer, but not entirely, toward the kind of tax system long
championed by businesses.

This week, I read an email from a company trying to sell me their cookbook. Supposedly, they have all these healthy recipes to help you lose weight. One of their sentences was egregious, to say the least. "If you are like most people who want to stay slim and healthy, probably you might always be looking for the perfect diet that will magically make it all easier." This sentence could read: "If you want to stay healthy and slim, you might be looking for a diet that will help you."
The lead you chose is a great impact lead! By reading it, I am able to understand the impact that the story may have on my life.
ReplyDeleteYour description of an impact lead is very good.
ReplyDeleteI laugh when companies try to sell products and have poor writing in their ads. That sentence should be changed drastically.
