WEEK #10

I am getting my example for a lead from CNN.com on todays recent tragedies in Texas. The lead reads "The deadly shooting at the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, Texas--a sanctuary and place of worship-- may be unthinkable, but it's not unprecedented."

I think they did a great job with this lead. I don't think that it is too long by any means, and I also don't think that it is too short either. It is full of details that will catch someones attention and make them interested in opening the article and reading more. They did a great job of the five W's as well. They address what, who and where. The when comes from knowing that it was today. I'm sure that tomorrow that will change their leads to say "Sunday afternoon." They can't touch on the why of the matter because the is all under full investigation.

I also am impressed with the leads that these news platforms use because of how quickly they need to create them. They have a matter of minutes from when they hear the news to when they need to report it.

  1. Hello,
You brought up a good point about how quickly the leads are created. Reporters are on top of the stories so they can get that information out to their readers. With all the media outlets it helps for them to be aware of what is happening.
    Good luck!
