For a different class I have to read William Faulkner's "Intruder in the Dust." At the college level we do not read much that I would consider bad. Honestly, I cannot say if this bad or not yet, but I know it is a chore to get through.
I bring this up because Faulkner pushes sentence length to the absolute limit. I have not finished it yet but one sentence can drag on for two pages sometimes. It reads like a rambling fool's drunken story telling. Now perhaps I'm being a little harsh, Faulkner is a master of his craft and I am still a lowly student. Try this though:
Granted it is more than one sentence, but I stand by the idea that it reads terribly. You can use interesting methods to get a message across to people but experimenting can produce interesting results or garbage.
Sometimes reading tough literature does feel like a chore. I often wonder why the authors have to make it so confusing. I'd much rather read Harry Potter and understand what's going on than trying to understand really hard literature.
