Hey, class. To start off the blog this week, I want to share something that my wife found while she was reading through some news articles. I have mentioned to my wife that I need to find grammar mistakes throughout the week and she sent me this. Above, you can see an article that has a quote. It says, "He would rather die then go to prison." The word then needs to be changed to the word than in order for the sentence to be correct.
There are a lot of words that are pronounced the same but have a different meaning, as seen above. I believe most of the time we can tell the difference by slowing down our writing, but sometimes even that is not enough. Alter and altar is one example. Alter is to change something, while altar is something that people pray at. Another example is bass and base. You can go base jumping and try to catch a bass fish with your bare hands. Even bear and bare can be confusing if you're writing too fast. Never try to fight a bear with your bare hands. All of these words sound the exact same, I believe the best way to learn is simply try to familiarize yourself with as many words as possible. Make sure you're reading different mediums of text everyday.
This was an entertaining mistake. The way it is written sounds like Michael's preferred order - die first, then go to prison.
