Right or wrong words:
Though I write the word “capitol” almost daily, referring to the
United States Capitol, I seem to get “capital” mixed up with it, referring to
the capital letters that we use at the beginning of the sentence. I have tried
to remember this easy mistake by using one silly trick. When you are
referencing capitol, meaning the state or US capitol, remember that the
government has taken a “toll” on us. That helps me to remember the “ol” on it.
When you are referencing the capital letters at the beginning of the sentence,
think of the capital letters being “tall,” which will help remember the “al.”
One mistake came from my cousin and her husband. Them being the
dare devils that they are, got a tattoo on their fore arm of their wedding date,
in roman numerals. The tattoo artist must not know his roman numerals because
the date was incorrect! I laugh because we all told them not to get tattoos,
but that is kind of sad to have the wrong date… especially since her husbands
is correct and hers is not! I guess tattoo artists need an editor to make sure
things are spelt and written correctly.
This photo is not from their tattoos; it is from google.
