Hey, class!
I have always enjoyed reading from the Associated Press and it has paid off for the assignment this week. After reading so many headlines throughout the year I have come to learn what a good title sounds like, at least according to the Associated Press application for the phone.
Some of the bad headlines that I saw this week were from social media, of course. One of the articles I saw were on a military page and the headline was "A Surprise Ambush Startles U.S. Troops but The Enemy Later Regretted It." The whole title is just redundant. An ambush is already a surprise attack, so there is no need to state "surprise ambush" and the title sounds like major clickbait. After this week, I have learned that you need to be concise in your titles, depending on the tone of your article.
One of the editing mistakes that I found this week was while I was working. A company newsletter was sent out with a small error. The error was a hyphen which was not necessary. "...new-pay structures will be sent out..." There is no need for the hyphen between the word "new" and "pay."
Hello!
ReplyDeleteThe headline looked as if someone was in rush writing it. The writer is repeating the same thing just different wording. A headline can make a difference to your audience.
Good catch.
Good luck with the rest of the semester!
