The
AP Stylebook has been my friend this semester with two of my classes. Ok, so talk
about the English language being difficult. You think you know what you are
saying and the whole time you have been writing it out wrong. For example, the
word OK our textbook tells us not to use okay which I do all the time. It’s funny
because I see a lot of other people do the same thing. The height and
measurements are confusing because I assume what I’ve written is correct. The
wording is different in the AP book so I end up being wrong in my answer. For example, She is 4 feet 8 inches tall or the 4-foot-8-inch girl is going to jump. Then if you write 4'8" the apostrophe always indicates the feet while the quote is for the inches. I
think there are too many rules, but it could be just me being difficult and
complaining. I try to be careful in my writing but find myself going back to
check my work which can be time consuming. One of my problem is I tend to
second guess my writing or my answers on a test and I need go with my gut. This
is one of my classes this semester that is pushing me to rethink my words and
punctuation in my writing assignments. It’s a good thing, but can be
overwhelming.
The mistake I found was in People magazine and they were
talking about Kim Kardashian having body insecurities. It says that “…seen met
at the Met.” It should have been “…seen me at the Met.” Then it said, “The Mexico
trip really f—ed up.” It should have said, “The Mexico
trip really f—d me up.”
PEOPLE magazine mistake: Back
in Los Angeles, family friend Jonathan Cheban pointed
out that Kim had developed “a real insecurity problem lately.” “You should have seen met at the Met. If you think this is bad …”
she responded. “The Mexico trip really f—ed up.”

I love the image you chose for your post this week! It was also interesting to me that we are supposed to use the word OK instead of okay. I always thought using the word okay was the proper usage because it's longer and looks more official. There are still so many rules I need to memorize from The AP Stylebook that my head is spinning!
ReplyDeleteHaha you meme is the best. I am a victim of saying k instead of Ok. It honestly makes you look a lot more educated if you say something like "Ok, Let's do it," instead of "K, let's do it." Also I felt the same way, it definitely feels like there are too many rules.
